About Startup Mom

I’m a 30 something stay at home mom to my very sweet but energetic two year old daughter. Her favorite activities are reading, painting, running and climbing places she shouldn’t when my back is turned.

Before her I spent nine years working as a programmer in the tech industry. I started at a large company but after a few years switched to a smaller startup hoping to make a bigger impact. While I was there I programmed, managed projects, negotiated with vendors, gave training presentations, mentored new engineers and worked closely with a variety of other departments including qa, docs, marketing and customer service.

After two years as full time mom and housewife I’m ready for a new challenge but I’m not ready to leave my daughter and I’m definitely not ready to head back into corporate America. This time around I want to fail or succeed based on my own merits and not those of managers several levels above me. I plan on combining my two skill sets of programmer and mom to create from the Park Bench, an internet business for moms. (More details coming soon.)

Please feel free to follow along on the adventure at my blog. What does it really take to get a business off the ground while still paying attention to the pitter patter of little feet? How do you balance marketing with market going, web development with child development, business plans with playground plans? I hope the blog can act as a journal and a resource guide for those who are starting or dream of starting their own business.
